Because having princess after princess that looks exactly the same, with the same personality and physical traits and characteristics, is boring and unrealistic. Yes, Merida looks fucking different. She’s a ginger, she has freckles, she’s short, she doesn’t like painting her nails and she probably doesn’t spend thirty minutes on her makeup in the morning.

Does that give you the right to say she’s not pretty? She’s unconventionally beautiful and different and unique, but by no means is she ugly. I think the fact that people are making Disney confessions about her not being pretty delves even deeper into the way we think as a society and what we believe to be pretty and how unrealistic that is, and it really shows what we truly think about beauty and how we don’t understand that beauty comes from confidence and variety and uniqueness, instead of being plastic and common.

Okay, end rant. Sorry, I had to get that out there.

The latter. I, of course, won’t spoil the movie before it comes out, and I’ll try my best to post plot updates from Pixar themselves instead of getting something secondhand that may spoil the plot. But once the movie is out, I’ll wait a couple days and probably start posting gifs/graphics/edits then.

This article bothered me for a number of reasons.

You are being anti woman in trying to raise Merida above the Disney princesses. There’s nothing wrong with them. She will be an amazing character in her own right.

WHY do you feel the need to explain in detail what Pixar is, yet you still talk about Brave and Merida as if Disney is solely responsible?

Pixar’s films are NOT primarily geared towards young boys. The films are meant to reach out to people of all ages. I am a twenty year old girl and I love Pixar (LOL DUH!!!!!!!), but just because the protagonists are talking toys or rats or cars, doesn’t mean they only cater to a specific demographic. Honestly, you’re just as bad as the young men who won’t watch a movie because a girl or a princess is the main character.

This article is bad and the person who wrote it should feel bad.

Oops haha, I accidentally hit send before finishing when I was replying to this so I’ll just reblog it: Ugh this is in so many ways true and I LOVE YOU for bringing this up. I’ve seen a ton of opinions about Merida being better than the princesses, or better than the other Disney characters. I don’t see this being accurate at all. I think Merida is going to be her own character in her own category and I’m pretty sure she’s the first of a string of Pixar fairytales that will be to come. Like I’ve said before, different doesn’t always mean ultimately better or worse, just different, and it should be treated on a different level. Not a higher or a lower level, just a different one.

I am excited to see "BRAVE" because....
